7" Sleeve Tests

Experimenting with ways to lay out the sleeve.
I was finding the idea of having an inner sleeve not very appealing, so began testing ways to expose the inner sleeve to compliment the outside. Feed from crit was that the image and text didn't needs to be together, could be separated onto different elements of the sleeve.

Circle Cut-out

I tried the cut out of the circle in the centre of the outside sleeve instead of the inside, I liked the reversal and thought if the outside image was the dark folded print the lighter grid text would have enough contrast to stand out.

Inner and outer sleeve

  • Really like the contrast between the layers, draws the audiences attention to the centre.
  • The idea of having the inner become the outer i really like, as it plays with the idea of what neo soul is. It had a structure and people knew what it was, but now has becomes something slightly different but still with the same fundamentals.

Panoramic Band

Having a panoramic band around the sleeve instead of an inner sleeve to link back to the definition of a hiatus by nai palm.

Strip and Sleeve

Front

  • The strip linking of a panoramic view also protects the record from falling out of the sleeve. The text again has contrast to the outer, like the circle cut out.
  • The overall visual doesn't look as technically designed as the circle, but the use of pano is really strong.

What to carry forward?

  • Think of the use of panoramic images, could have being a larger pano for the outer sleeve and keep the inner sleeve and circle cut idea.
  • Does it work to combine the pano with circle? TEST!
