Image and Text Development

  • In response to the critique the message I wanted to portray wasn't being translated very successfully, people understood the humour in it but the presentation was lacking.
  • Thinking back to the article by Kristina Kuzmic the presentation was through physical photographs, could combine this with the steps to create a physical photograph demonstrating one of the restraints mentioned in the pamphlet.
  • The pamphlet idea would work better as a pamphlet rather than a poster as it doesn't match the format very well.
  • Could combine the two and have the photograph as the poster but would have an interactive element (as in the Creature's ad in london) to incorporate the pamphlet - could be a QR code or a link to acces and download?

Thinking back to original idea, could take the text and apply to the eye mask across the front, how?
- don't have enough time to screen print.
- laser cut is time sensitive
- text would be too small to cut on vinyl cutter, also vinyl might peel off.
- hand cut stencil?

Making the stencil:

Type to considered, needed something that was again neutral and easy to read since the text was going to be printed it might be a bit tricky. Couldn't include serifs, the details would be too small and could potentially get lost or complicate the design.

The top left (helvetica) was the most successful, and could also be cut easily.

acetate stencil

Was effective in blocking out the paint, but because it was thick the paint would seep through the sides and bleed making it illegible.

sticker stencil

The sticker stencil was a lot more fiddly to cut, but once it was done it made a really good stencil, the sponging technique applied paint evenly.
To clean up some of the mistakes I just used black paint to counteract the white.

What to do next:
- take photo
- add link or QR code, need to test both
