Final Outcome:
The final map shows different elements of the conversation, the frequency of specific words, the length of the conversation, and the types of words used.
The symbols added a bubbly personality to the map, as the colour palette was bright and playful. This made the idea of analysing the conversations more fun and interesting.
The band was an added detail to protect the pages and stop them from springing out, this worked well with the shapes of the cover being printed on the sleeve and embossed on the cover. It added a sense of professionalism to the publication.
The inside of the band was made to provide context for the shapes, it allowed the audience to read and understand their purpose to allow for greater engagement with the publication.
Critiques:
- Production is very strong, made to a high standard, and all materials and processes have been carefully considered.
- Would be difficult to mass produce.
- The sleeve works well to protect the book, but this could maybe also be in a box to protect the sides/edges from getting damaged - This would allow for a greater space to produce the key as it would be presented on the inside of the box. Experimentation into shape and scale could be developed further.
- The ambiguity of the concept makes the product intriguing, making you want to know where the conversation had come from.
- You can clearly see a lot of time and thought has gone into the process.
- The crisp white makes you scared to pick it up in case it gets dirty - The cover could've been bound in a plastic material allowing it to be cleaned, or in a completely different coloured paper stock. However when this was tested it was difficult to find a coloured paper that was able to be embossed by hand.
- The overall production is quite strong, the only thing is that the pages binding to the cover are a bit bulky - If the paper was able to be printed double sided then this would've be an issue. Looking elsewhere for printing might have made this possible.
- The use of embossing is really nice, I also thought that it would be cool to have some colour on the embossing - Tested and unsuccessful as the colour cracks when embossed by hand.
- It is incredible that you have made grammar seem fun.
- The bright colours work really well as a contrast to the otherwise dull theme of grammar.
- The format of the key is inventive.
