Production of Book - Folding

Paper is 2050 mm long.
test paper folded into 16
2050 / 16 = 128.125 mm

Size of paper to fold: 1974 mm
1974 / 2 = 957
957 / 2 = 478.5
478.5 / 2 = 239.25
239.25 / 2 = 119.625
round up to 120.
To fold into 120 mm long pieces

The folding process presented a couple of issues:

  • As the paper was rather thick when folding the concertina lines there were creases that formed in the pages - this could be solved by the sue of a different paper stock however I was slightly limited by materials.
  • The crop marks on the pages were darker than expected - this was solves by using a very light grain of sandpaper (240) to lightly rub the paper and remove any unwanted mark.
How to add Cover:
To attach pages to the book think about the paper type that will be bound to the cover.
Tested a pearl grey paper, the paper was too harsh and would rip the paper.
Tested bulky newsprint but the same issues applied, you could also see the marks made by the utensil.

Paper with a grain (such as cartridge) is the best as is most malleable.
