Silent Crit Feedback

  • The jumbled but legible text is nice as it conveys the busy festival and with all the things going on but maintains that organised chaos.
  • Like the use of jumbled text - could try photocopier to distort it. - Really like this idea, but feel as though it could alter the legibility of the text. Want it to be legible.
  • The tip ins could look like flyers - could insert lose flyers into the book. - Very easy to test, will do once book's completed.
  • Instead of dueplexing could you do french folds - adds more confusion - Won't be able to do this with the tip-ins or bind chosen, feels as though it could be one element too many.
  • Prefer the darker richer brown outside choice.
  • Fragmented binding brings energy to the book which doesn't reflect the positive feel of fringe and overall festival. Instead could you bind them all together but have them folded in different ways. Would appear separate but unified, reader would be able to unfold pieces and it would create a merge of colour and focuses. - Definitely a good idea, but feels as though it's a little late in the project, I find the tip-ins add the desired effect well. Could maybe experiment with this on some of the pages.
  • Business of it is good to represent busy festival.
  • Could pages fold in and out one another?
  • Does there need to be something else on the cover to represent the city, pattern, texture, emboss? - Wanting to keep the outside very understated but do feel like something could be done just to nod to the content on the inside. Going to test the layout of type, make more playful but keep everything else the same.
  • Why that typeface? - Inside is futura as this is the same typeface that's used on the small text on the logo. The outside is Bookman Old Style to continue with the traditional appearance of the cover.
  • To bombard with imagery I think there needs to be more, maybe on the book cover? - Again on the outside wanting to keep the cover simple, so not having any imagery on the cover. Inside there is mainly text but with some imagery, wasn't able to take photos during shows so limited to the images on the internet.
  • It is confusing to understand at first but each page makes sense.
  • Will there be a key for colour coded paper?
  • The cover could have a structure or structured pattern embossed onto it to emphasise the traditional city and buildings.
  • Could do different paper stock.
