Brief of the Week 1.4

More developments for the cover, experimenting with placement of text as well as playing with incorporating lower case type.
Finding a balance between appearing soft as well as appearing similar to the the aesthetic od the inside of the book.

Having the lowercase letters definitely softens the overall impact of the cover, but has a very different aesthetic to the inside pages:

After discussions with Lani and Rosie we decided on having the cover as lower case and altering the inside titles to also lower case.
It creates a much softer feel within the book, this suits the subject matter as the whole book is based on a harbour, somewhere people go to relax.

Tracing Paper Pages:
  • Initially thought about having the tracing paper pages show the letters, like in the book shop, but we realised this was sticking too close to the bookshop for ideas now the book is about the bay in general.
  • Wanting to have a selection of road names included somehow, as well as the hand written elements.
  • Have as tip ins within the book - think of the practicalities.

Handwriting the road names to place in text.

Tested having these as tracing paper, when thinking about having them as tip ins the practicalities were very difficult, it would also make it more expensive to print as they would have to be placed in by hand and wouldn't align to either the top or the bottom, making it difficult to mass produce.

Arranged the text on the page so the handwritten elements would slip in between:

When printing there were a lot of issues with the tracing paper being printed, it kept getting crinkled in the printer.

Whether to have the line of the journey or not?
- thinking that the inclusion of the line for the journey on the tracing paper page, as well as the text overlaid text could be too much - TEST THIS

Thinking the route make it seem more specific, doesn't allow other places in the are to be visited as well. Also looks too busy on the page, doesn't highlight the pages it only takes away from the images which we want to be the main focus.
