Camden Town Brewery - Colour Palette, Layout

Colour Palette:
Trying to develop a colour palette for the illustrations to test out alongside the red only colour palette.
Kat did some experimenting with colour palette:

But these didn't look right for the piece, a reduced colour palette to two block colour only didn't work very well, it looked like the characters were part of a dance troop or in PE kit.

I found a the colour palette that wasn't used from the most recent brief of the week:

And decided to implement this into the design:

The overall look was good, it appeared fresh due to the bright colour palette, but more considered than other attempts as there were various tones within the colours.

Tried adding a 5th colour to see how this would work:

However this didn't work, the green tone, although being strongly related to spring and freshness didn't work well with the original colour scheme.
- We decided to stick with the 4 original colours and work from there.

Layout:
After our discussion Kat sent me some sketches for the long bottle/can layout:

  • The girl on the end of the bar looks too rowdy in this sketch, partly because she's drinking her pint but also because she's standing on the bar. I suggested to Kat that a different position would be preferable.
  • The characters are the same ones that are on the poster, I think this is a really nice touch to add a sense of continuity within the different pieces.
  • The eye contact of each character could be changed to be looking at the person at the end of the bar, this way the audience's attention is directed towards her.

  • The arrangement of the people on this is really strong, however there could do with one other person or even two on the bar as the scale need to be able to be a wrap around to fit on the can/bottle.
  • The 'fresh moves' character on the right is in a good position, she doesn't look rowdy, just like she's having fun.
  • I also suggested to Kat (as an alteration from the first image) that the other characters look at the person at the end of the bar. This is really effective in getting the audience to look at the person at the end of the bar as well.
