More Ideas, Where to go?

  • The impact of the book idea is interesting, it is successful at making you recognise your own body.
    - Really makes you notice what your body is doing when interacting with the publication.
    - It could become repetitive, how would I avoid this if taking it further?
  • How could the book idea be translated to other mediums?
    - Screen, website, film, etc.
I was thinking about what things make us aware of our bodies/actions:
- Seeing a policeman when walking or police car when driving.
- Reading a sign saying there's CCTV

These things make you aware of yourself so you don't do anything illegal, it makes you hyper-aware of the things your body is doing. Why so?

It is a series of photos of the photographer (Theo Acworth) crashing/falling off his bike. They were photos for an exhibition that have now been collated into a book.
Theo state“I was introduced to the work of the Fluxus group after making these images and I absolutely loved what I found. I’ve always enjoyed taking photographs but the driving force of all these artists was the first sort of movement or attitude that I really strongly identified with and felt enthused by. A lot of what they do is ultimately pointless but at the same time indescribably wonderful.”

The idea of making stuff that is ultimately pointless but that has an impact anyway is particularly interesting. My "issue" could easily be deemed as pointless, but it isn't, it has a reason. I think it's okay that people might not see the point of it, as long as it works.

Theo Acworth's Photos:

When watching videos about Fluxus Performance (eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FE_6TYv1Ow) it became very clear that there didn't seem like much of a point to the performances. I think the movement as a concept but when seeing it take place it seems almost useless. However, this rejects the whole notion of what normal is or should be, what are is or should be. Fluxus allowed people to do what they wanted and avoid the narrowing of creativity.
 - A lot of the works rely on the audience, making them become the art or interact with it, feel like this is similar Olafur and his works. Interesting philosophy, how can this be carried forward? Should it?

How does this relate to my own practice?
- Thinking about using photography as a format to develop the project further. Could incorporate the Fluxus movement aesthetic, diy and rustic, by doing own film photography and developing it? (would have to be black and white if developing myself).
- What would I photograph? People interacting with art/design. Galleries, books, film, photography, websites etc. Compile this into a collection (has its own issues with corornavirus at the moment, as I would only be able to photograph my family).
