Wes Anderson Typeface & Logotype - Development

Development into Typeface

Taking serifs from Times new Roman and adding to traced Helvetica Light. The look is clean and crisp, similar to the work of Anderson.

Wanted to incorporate some ideas that are less well known about Anderson, as he directed an advert in 2012 for the Hyundai Azera I began to experiment with the use of a car as a grid, the letters achieved didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. After further research into the car, I found a logo that didn't contain a bar on the capital A, wanted to include this into my typeface - small subtle detail that adds more personality to the letters.
 - Potential for the car part images to be used as a guide for layout when it comes to putting typeface into context?
 - Could include numbers, and use drawings of film sets (similarly to the parts of the car) to provide info in illustrative way?

Development into subtle inclusion of charlie brown into typeface, experimented with zig-zags and a curly squiggle to try and provide a hint of cartoon. The end result was too childlike and overall rather clunky, very unlike Anderson's work and general aesthetic.
 - When looking into Charlie Brown influences the curl looked best when placed inside the counter of a letter. Could try and include in typeface, but make more sophisticated?

Development into Logotype

Testing symmetry, and layering.
Idea's of gestalt, using tricks of the mind, interesting layout and unique point of view - similar to that of Anderson.

Experimentation into layout and an arrangement of letters.
 - how does this effect the legibility of the typeface?
 - does weight have an effect? If so what?
Found with the more close mirroring and overlapping images it was difficult to identify the individual letters, so changed to opacity to improve the clarity of the logotype.
