Overall Cover

Refining the details, having the text boxes be less uniform and distrupting the column was something people suggested after a critique. It helped blend in the bar code box with the rest of the text boxes. Also with the bar code it was edited slightly to improve the overall aesthetic, the lines and white box were removed to show an ideal version of the cover, however due to the submission rules when submitting the design to the competition this alteration will be reversed.

The type for the author on the front cover was again something to think about, used the same continuous line technique as the title and quote to keep things cohesive. The pens used were fine liner, and felt tip to see the different effects, fine liner was too thin and doesn't stand out enough on the page, also looks too much like quote type and should have a similar weight to the title text.

Too thin to be seen with other type, also was difficult to read the J in RJ.

This is the one used on the final design as it was the most legible but also complimented the weight of the tile and the composition also.

The legibility of this version was very low, the 'pala' was difficult to distinguish between letters.

The final cover combines the key elements of the story, space and insecurities (symbolised by the astronaut helmet, with an overall aesthetic that is playful and childlike whilst appealing to the more mature audience interested in the book.
