Design Principles - Poster Initial Idea Generation

  • Pamphlets on how to breastfeed in public places.
  • Posters for how to feed on the tube (extremelly public place).
  • Have an icon to resemble 'breastfeeding welcome'.
  • Think about where you'd see boobs, e.g. page 3 and but breastfeeding images there.
  • Use victoria's secret font to develop wiht, write a statement with etc.
  • Alter the Bs and Os in a statement.
  • Make a typeface but have all the Bs and Os altered in someway, censored? exaggerated?
  • Provide equipment to give mum to make it so she doesn't feel guilty for breastfeeding in public, eg hear plugs so she doesn't have to hear people tutting at her.
  • Incorporate the fabrics of breastfeeding covers, muslin blankets etc.
  • Have an image of an itema  mother used and the her story as to why she doesn't breastfeed in public underneath, more serious, like a PSA.

Altering the Bs and Os:

Bs and Os manipulated using the scanner, could be used to develop a type from or incorporating the Bs and Os into the alphabet to draw attention to them.

Having the letters clumped up to make it seem as though they've been disregarded, or outcast in some way.

Arranging Bs and Os in the same way as toilet cubicles. As many mothers go feed their babies in the toilets as it is the only private space when out in public.

Scans and rearrangements of the Bs and Os, making a focal point, having them all clumped together makes them look less cared about and considered. As if they've just been discarded.
The warped scanning was just to spin off this and test ideas, was a way to manipulate the letters, could later be used in a typeface to exaggerate or hid the letters.

Guide to guilt free breastfeeding:

Having the poster be a tongue and cheek way of posing the issue.
Poster is a way of protecting mum from all the negative things she may experience when breastfeeding in public, so ear defenders and earplugs to stop her hearing people tutting at her as they walk by, and a blindfold to stop her seeing people star at her for breastfeeding. Also the cover up just so she doesn't feel like she's getting here boobs out in public.
-The background is baby blanket material, would be in colour but was a quick test and was cheaper to print in black and white to generate the idea.
-Need to add text, could add title and info as to how to use each item in the "pack".

Removing Bs and Os From Type:

Having the letters appear as though they've fallen out of the text, been forgotten about, or no longer important.

removing the letters and appearing as though the're being 'hidden' is some way. Letters don't need to be included on the image could just be the statement alone.

Having the statement with a black background makes it more obvious an adjustment's been made.

Exaggerating the Bs and Os to bring attention to them, rather than being regular than the rest of the letters.
Adding a pixelation filter over the Bs and Os in an attempt to censor the letters, aware that they're there but not being able to have an impact on the way the sentence in read.

Removing the Bs and Os from a quote, here the example is used of a quote from the UK laws of breastfeeding in public. Trying to make it obvious that a change has been made but ensuring the sentence is actually legible. Having the letters appear they're 'hidden' is a successful outcome, but needs to be developed further as doesn't have that much impact on the audience. Could include a more powerful quote or have the text be larger or heavier on the board so it has a stronger impact, and its more obvious that the letters are missing.
