Post Crit Feedback - Change to design in Response

Image used for the critique:

(1) Really unique concept, not a completely obvious response and very well carried out. Research justifies colour use well. Have an international best seller or August quote in thicker type, to create more diversity and make it stand out, or have reviews in italics. Maybe try have the august quote in the sign as well.

(2) Love the ideas behind the cover and the front image looks really good. Remember to include the title and author on the spine. Maybe add the sign that's being held up to look more like an object that you'd see in space e.g. a flag. Colours used look really good as well as the lighting and shadows.

(3) The general concept is not original as space is a common theme among other book covers however the way you've approached it is really original and imaginative. The colours/lighting work really well in representing the sense of space and wonder. The only thing to change is to maybe experiment with the text layout on the back cover and don't forget the spine.

(4) The idea behind the cover works really well, I love how you've actually made the helmet itself and how you managed to incorporate that into your cover so well. The background maybe could of gone from a dark blue to black, I say this because it relates to space more and would be more childlike also.

(5) This is a really good cover, like that you've gone for a photo. Could the blurb change? It needs some hierarchy. The 'my name' bit could be slightly bigger/bold. Need the title down the spine.

(6) Really like the photographic element, adds depth , also stands out from other book covers as it's not just digitally made. Really strong concept, unique! Could put the type on the front under the sign or above the space helmet, see what works best.

(7) Nice imagery and colour palette. Text seems a bit bulky and not thought through on positioning. Play with the arrangement of the text and need to add the quote on the front.

To Do List:
- experiment with arrangement of type on back cover, how would it interact with the photo?
- retake photos

The photo didn't translate onto the book cover as expected, the colours of the photo weren't as strong as in previous tests. The composition of the image also didn't work as effectively, having everything so central makes small mistakes very obvious. The earlier photos of peggy have a much more of a dramatic impact that the new photos are lacking:

The lighting in this image is more harsh, but the gradient is softer, had a higher quality also.
Thinking of keeping the overall appearance of the book more simple as the photos including the light box are more complicated and busy.

Ways to draw it back:
- use earlier photos without light box
- try collage for quick results
- considered text layout, how to make purposeful?
