ASPECTS OF THE BOOK:
- Perfect bound = can't have full page spreads.
- Linear structure - easy to read, but very passive.
- Size makes it easy to carry around, if smaller would be thicker, is this an issue?
- Paper back makes it easy to carry, not too clunky.
- Sectioned into categories - makes it have a flow.
- Paper stock is very thin, allows for more pages without making the book to bulky.
- Doesn't have page numbers, hard to plan from it.
HOW TO IMPROVE:
- Have the locations placed on a map with all the things to do on, allows the reader to plan a day trip around Leeds.
- If the book wasn't perfect bound you'd be able to have full page spreads.
- The matt cover could be waxed, if someone is carrying it around Leeds it'll get ruined in the rain or by being taken in and out of a pocket, could get ruined.
- The book needs to have page numbers, the audience might lose their page and will not be able to find it again, the page numbers would need to be somewhere visible.
- Should have the places numbered and colour coded on each page and then places onto a whole map of Leeds so people could plan a trip/route
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
ASPECTS OF THE BOOK:
- The cover tells you what the content of the book is very well.
- Has embossed glossy text on the front cover.
- It doesn't really have a descriptive blurb, very basic info on the back.
- Has quotes on the book from famous people who are related to the content, eg Bill Gates and Barack Obama..
- Paper stock is a warm toned off white, makes it easier on the eye and less intimidating.
- The size of the book is very big, I don't think it's meant to be read in a particular place so is this an issue?
- The font is standard book font, it doesn't distract from the content.
- Has a contents, and separates the content of the book into sections and then chapters.
- The book has a timeline at the start, sets the tone for the whole book.
- The language used in the book is at times quite advanced.
HOW TO IMPROVE:
- Have notations next to the more advanced text to allow for more information to be included in the book, help further the audience's understanding.
- Have more images and diagrams for the more complex information.
- The timeline could also include pictures to provide more context for the information.
- As the blurb doesn't fully explain the book it could be beneficial to have more content on their about the book, making it more likely to be picked up and purchased by their target audience.
