Book Cover Post Crit

Looking at how to arrange type on the front cover of book.
Needs to be a serif font, this will contrast with the sans serif modern type on the inside of the book as well as represent Edinburgh the city better as the city appears very traditional in it's architecture.

The title of the book will be 'Fringe', I think this combined with the simplistic outer cover will make the inside even more of a surprise as the book may not look like it will contain content about the Edinburgh fringe.

Tests for the book title:

I felt like the small text didn't translate the way I'd hoped. It looked clumsy and unconsidered. You can still have an understated cover but have a large typeface.
The Times New Roman was too harsh, it had really angular serifs and a very intense feel, the second typeface ,Bookman Old Style, still had a traditional serif but is more delicate in it's approach, there isn't as much of a dramatic difference in weight within each letter (also making it better for embossing).

Laser cut the type:

Tested embossing and debossing:

The most successful was the capital letter embossing, however the lowercase letters have a less dramatic impact as well as having a resemblance to the original fringe logo.

Also experimented with clustering the letters, as someone suggested this could a funky way to display the type.

The effect is really nice, however it relates too much to what's inside the book. The outside needs to be more understated to make the impact of the inside even more great.
