Magma Visit

Looking at the books there are in Magma was really interesting. Compared to Village in Leeds there are a larger selection of categories of book, and this is split in the store. It seems to be more celebrating the books, as there is the space for all to be displayed compared to village.

The cover of this book was similar to one I experimented with back in first year, with the rotating wheels to present a final word to the reader. It a way of having something not so clear at the beginning but once it's been worked on a little the viewer can easily make the cover make sense.

These two book series had really strong visual continuity. They were easily recognisably part of a set due to consistent typeface and layout of the cover. The zines were easy to read, non confusing and straight forward, but the presentation of the series made them stand out to me.

This book 'The Haptic Way' has a bind that is similar to the kettle stitch binding that's being used on my book. It has been left exposed, which is different to mine, but this allows for the different coloured pages to be visible, leaving the book with a more organic feel. The bind of the book was also glued over, as another barrier layer of protection-could be something to look into with own book.
